These specializations involve surgery procedures, from the simplest ones, passing through dental extraction, complex extractions of wisdom teeth, tumors, fractures to orthognatic surgeries in order to correct the wrong dental positioning and the mandible-maxilla positioning. The surgeries that require only local anesthesia may be done at a well-equipped dentist’s office. Other types must be done only in surgery centers.
The following surgeries are done at the dentist’s office: included tooth extraction, dental traction, parendodontic surgeries (in the root tips when there are lesions), implant surgeries, abscesses drains, among others. These treatments have particular prescriptions and, usually, are the last alternative applied (only required when all the non-surgery alternatives were previously tried).
It is recommended when there is no space in the arch for the new tooth or if the tooth is misplaced. Panoramic X-rays are used to detect the tooth position. The advanced surgery technique allows the extraction of a wisdom tooth in a shorter operation time length (most of the times, it is a matter of minutes), with excellent improvements in the recovering time as well. With these new techniques, there are no more reasons to be afraid of extracting the wisdom tooth. Sedation is used.
